Terms of Use

These terms set the conditions for using Sterling Residents Directory. By using the service, you accept them. Do not use the service if you do not agree.

1. Nature of the Service

Sterling Residents Directory is a privately operated reference source. It describes and links to public rolls, indexes, and directory collections concerning current or former Sterling, Virginia residents. It does not host government records and has no affiliation with a records office, court, or custodian.

2. Permitted Use

Use this service only for lawful purposes. You may not use it, or information reached through it, to:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm any person
  • Locate someone protected by a restraining or protective order
  • Commit identity theft or fraud
  • Make FCRA-regulated decisions (credit, employment, tenant, insurance)
  • Scrape, copy, or republish the site's content at scale
  • Interfere with the site's operation or security

3. Consumer-Reporting Restriction

This service is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. Neither its contents nor output from a linked search tool is a consumer report. None may be used to determine eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another FCRA-covered purpose.

4. Outside Links

Government portals, sponsored search tools, and other outside services set their own terms and policies. We do not control their content, availability, pricing, or information practices.

5. No Warranties

The site is provided "as is" and "as available," with no warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that anything on the site is accurate, complete, or current, or that any linked portal will work or return correct results.

6. Liability Limits

To the fullest extent allowed by law, we are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages resulting from use of this service or an external resource, including decisions based on records reached through it.

7. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operators of this site from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising from your misuse of the site or violation of these terms.

8. Intellectual Property

The original writing, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. Links and short attributed quotations are welcome. Republishing full pages or systematically copying the material is not permitted.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms by posting a new version here. Continued use after a change means acceptance.

10. Restricting Access

We may block or limit access, without notice and at our discretion, when a user violates these terms or misuses the service.

11. Governing Law

Virginia law governs these terms, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Public-records references on this service include the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Va. Code §§2.2-3700 through 2.2-3715, but those statutes do not alter these terms or require a custodian to create a new record.

12. Severability

If any part of these terms proves unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
