Information Submitted Directly
A name, phone number, or address entered into a search box is sent to the outside provider that supplies results. Our servers do not retain a copy of those queries. A message sent to us contains the information included in that message and is used only to respond.
Automatic Technical Data
Hosting systems create ordinary logs such as IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. We review that information in aggregate for reliability and usage trends. Cookies or comparable tools may support basic analytics and, when relevant, advertising measurement.
How Information Is Used
The limited data described above helps operate the service, resolve technical issues, measure aggregate traffic, and improve the reference pages. We do not sell a visitor list or construct individual visitor profiles.
External Services
Links may lead to Loudoun County and Virginia portals, library collections, archives, and outside search services. Information submitted on those destinations is governed by their privacy practices, including the provider that supplies sponsored search results.
Service Providers and Disclosures
Providers that host or support the service may process server logs for us. Analytics and advertising partners can receive the automatic data described above. Information is disclosed when valid legal process requires disclosure and otherwise only as described here.
Security and Retention
The service uses an encrypted connection, and logs are retained only for the operational purposes stated above. There are no user accounts, passwords, or visitor profiles stored by Sterling Residents Directory.
Visitors Under 18
This service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. Contact us if you believe a minor has submitted information, and we will remove it.
Your Privacy Rights
The Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act, Va. Code §§59.1-571–581, provides covered consumers with rights to access, correct, delete, obtain, and opt out of specified processing, subject to statutory exemptions. Because we keep very little, a request normally concerns the contact mailbox or server logs. Use the Contact page to make a request. Records held by Virginia or Loudoun County custodians are outside our control; direct a correction or removal request for those records to the agency that holds them.

Any revision will appear on this policy page. Continued use after an update signifies acceptance of the revised policy.
